Several PLA resins have already been tried with chemical substance blowing agent and physical blowing agent on extrusion process to review the expansion dependency extrusion equipment of amount of blowing agent and cell density, respectively. It has been discovered that a `dip' is present in both cases; foam density reduces to a minimum, then increases. It implies competing mechanisms during foaming. Bubble development model with surface vaporization looks inadequate in describing the counterintuitive foam density boost at increased blowing agent loading. Investigating foam rod size implies premature gas separation from the polymeric melt before foaming happened at an increased gas loading. It adversely affects foaming efficiency. Also discussed is the foam density variation during ageing.
