The development of a continuing process for supercritical fluids single screw extruder machine is desirable for high-pressure technology. In a previous study, it was revealed a twin-screw extruder was applicable as the feeder and reactor for industrial supercritical fluid operations. The benefits of twin-screw extruders consist of their conveying versatility and ability of design, which make them perfect for research on the applications of extruder. However, twin-screw extruders are costly because of their complicated gearbox, cylinder shape, screw, etc. In this article we report that a single-screw extruder, that is less costly and simpler when compared to a twin-screw extruder, can be applicable as the reactor and feeder for industrial supercritical fluid processes. Moreover, the equipment for a single-screw extruder can be smaller sized than that of a twin-screw extruder. The benefits of this review will promote the application of extruders in supercritical liquid engineering research and contribute to the industrialization of an array of supercritical fluid techniques.
