A fully predictive computer model has been developed for a single-screw plasticating extrusion. The model considers five zones of the extruder and the die, and describes an operation of the extruder-die program, to be able to predict a mass movement amount of the polymer, pressure and temperature profiles across the screw channel and in the die, stable bed profile, and ability consumption. Moreover, combining degree, temperature fluctuation and viscoelastic properties of the polymer happen to be approximated. The simulation parameters are the materials and rheological homes of the polymer, the screw, hopper and die geometry, and the functioning conditions. Such a comprehensive method of the modeling of extrusion produces the possibility of optimizing the procedure, for example, from the true viewpoint of the grade of extrusion. The model has got been verified experimentally for a low-density polyethylene on a 45 mm diameter single-screw extruder.
